Melanie Walker-Malone comes to us from Washington, DC. After spending 56 of her 63 years in Birmingham, Alabama, she has recently moved to be nearer to her children and grandchildren. This means that she has also weaned herself from her eighteen-year stint as Founder and Teacher at Red Mountain Community School, a small-by-design school devoted to Mason’s philosophy and methods. She returns to Birmingham regularly to work with teachers and curriculum while cultivating means to secure sustainability and longevity for this beloved work. Melanie keeps up with her writing life at www.asequel.com.
Melanie and her daughter Anna Claire are currently dreaming about starting a daughter school in DC called “Heartwood” – a place where seasonal living, reading, walking, keeping, making, and exploring can be preserved and passed down to the next generation.
